Guide for students

Students use Coraltalk to complete speaking assignments, practice with an AI tutor, and sometimes join live oral exams assigned by their teacher.

Create or access your account

  1. Go to coraltalk.com or use a link your teacher shared.
  2. Choose Sign upI'm a student, or Sign in if you already have an account.
  3. Complete email verification or sign in with Google.

First-time students may see onboarding to set preferences before home.

Join your class

You need access before assignments appear. Options:

Class code (most common)

  1. From home, click Join a class, or open /join from your teacher's link.
  2. Enter the class code (usually 6 characters). Codes are not case-sensitive.
  3. After joining, open the class from home and go to Oral Learning or the activity your teacher assigned.

Teachers can share a student link that includes join parameters. Sign in when prompted, then enter your code if required.

Canvas

If your course launches Coraltalk from Canvas, you may skip manual codes — you are provisioned into the linked class automatically. See Canvas LTI.

What you'll see in a class

Student navigation typically includes:

  • Oral Learning — Oral assignments and submissions
  • Roleplay — Assigned roleplay scenarios
  • Vid Tickets — Record video responses to prompts
  • Chats or Student Tutor — Ask the AI TA questions about course material
  • My Classroom — Overview of your work

Labels may vary slightly by class plan.

Complete an oral assignment

  1. Open Oral Learning and select the assignment.
  2. Read instructions and rubric (unless your teacher hid evaluation from students).
  3. Allow microphone access when the browser asks.
  4. Start the conversation with Coral and answer all required prompts.
  5. Submit when finished. Your video and transcript appear in the submission list after processing.

Evaluation may take a few minutes. Refresh the page if status shows "Evaluating."

Roleplay and vid tickets

  • Roleplay — Enter the scenario, speak in your assigned role, and submit. Some classes include minute limits or purchases for extra practice time.
  • Vid tickets — Record a short video answer, then view peer replies when your teacher unlocks them.

Profile photo

After joining via /join, you may be asked to add a profile photo. This is optional but helps teachers recognize you on submission lists.

Grades and feedback

Teachers control whether you see grades, letter bands, or full evaluation tabs. You may still see written feedback when grades are hidden.

Problems?

  • Invalid class code → confirm the code with your teacher; codes expire when a class is marked complete.
  • Can't sign in → use the same email your teacher invited; try passwordless email code or Google.
  • Microphone not working → Browser and microphone.

Contact your teacher first for assignment-specific questions; use support@coraltalk.com for account or technical issues.
