Browser and microphone

Oral assignments, roleplay, live exams, and some TA interactions require a working microphone and a supported browser.

Google ChromeRecommended
Microsoft Edge (Chromium)Recommended
SafariSupported; verify microphone permissions each session
FirefoxSupported; test before high-stakes exams

Keep the browser updated. Avoid Internet Explorer.

Microphone permissions

  1. When Coraltalk prompts for microphone access, choose Allow.
  2. If you previously blocked access:
    • Chrome/Edge: Click the lock icon in the address bar → Site settings → Microphone → Allow
    • Safari: Safari → Settings → Websites → Microphone
  3. Reload the page and restart the assignment.

Hardware checks

  • Select the correct input device in system settings (Bluetooth headsets sometimes disconnect).
  • Close other apps using the microphone (Zoom, Teams).
  • Test in a quiet room; reduce background noise for better transcription.

Camera (live exams / video)

  • Allow camera when prompted for live exams or vid tickets.
  • Check physical camera shutter switches on laptops.

Mobile devices

Mobile browsers may work but desktop Chrome/Edge is best for exams. If issues occur, switch devices early — do not wait until the deadline.

Firewall and school networks

Some school networks block WebRTC or media devices. Try a home network or contact IT to allow Coraltalk domains.
